1/2 cup sambal belacan paste
1 tbsp kurma powder
1 tbsp ground coriander powder
1/2 cup sugar
1 can coconut milk ,400 ml
2 large piece palm sugar or 200 gm coconut brown sugar
4 tbsp tamarind powder
salt to taste
1 lbs or 2 bowls fried peanut,grinded/crushed
You can buy ready pack compressed rice in plastic bag,boil following the instruction on the package.
Method:
1:Heat large wok or skillet at medium heat with sambal-belacan-paste.
Then add in coconut milk,kurma powder,coriander powder,palm sugar,sugar and tamarind powder.
2:Stir-fry all the ingredients until fragrant.Check the seasoning,keep stirring until the gravy become thicken,leave it to cool.Add in crushed peanuts into the gravy.
3:Serve with satay or compressed rice.
This sauce is suitable for serve with satay(BBQ meat on the stick) .If the sauce is too watery,add more crushed peanuts.

thanks! Kurma powder look like curry powder but different taste and slightly yellowish color..usually we use to cook meat..

Have never seen tamarind powder, only paste in a jar and brick-form. Please give more details and where I can get some in the NYC area. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteYesterday I was in Queens shopping..I notice all the Asian supermarket have lots of Malaysia or SEA grocery in stock,maybe they just received a new shipment..if you shop in Asian market in Queens like Elmhurst or Flushing or Manhattan you can find plenty tamarind powder at their asian stock shelf..In fact I just bought another 2 packet..if you get Knorr brand it's about $0.99 apacket,if you get thai's brand it's just $0.69 a apacket..If you have any problem finding it,email me..
