Surimi Tofu with Shrimp

I heard about surimi tofu but never try until now. When I saw surimi tofu at frozen section at Asian supermarket ,I quickly grab a pack of fish flavor surimi tofu home with me.I wonder how it's taste.Of course the price of this tofu is above regular tofu.It's taste bland just like regular tofu or full of fish flavor? To my surprised ,this tofu taste nothing like regular tofu or silken tofu ,it's more like fish cake texture and flavour!! The packaging really deceived me!! I didn't expect the body of surimi tofu bouncy and compact!! it's really taste delicious, luscious and delightful!!







Ingredients:

1 pack surimi tofu,thawed
6-8 large shrimp,shelled and deveined

3 cloves garlic,peeled and chopped
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder
1 tsp white pepper powder
2 tbsp corn flour+ 2 tbsp cold water,dissolve
1/2 cup water
1 stalk scallion,washed and cut small
2 tbsp oil

Method:


1:Heat medium pan or skillet with oil ,place surimi tofu into the pan,fry both side slightly,set aside .(You can omit the step coz the tofu it's self is well fried) Add in garlic ,fry until fragrant,then pour in water and seasoning.
2:When the gravy bubbly,add in shrimp and corn flour dissolved,mix well immediately,do not let it sit or stick into a lump.Cook for 5 minutes before add in surimi tofu .Check the seasoning.
3:Sprinkle cut scallion before dish out and serve warm .

I have not heard of surimi tofu. It sure looks very delicious. I wish I can find it here. But I'm very doubtful.

i love these surimi tofu. i get them from h-mart and thought that they were from korea but actually they are products of malaysia

I love this tofu/fish cakes. The one I bought here is in green packaging and it is from Malaysia. I like putting it in my noodle soup.

Like Mary, I have not heard of surimi tofu either. But tofu can't taste bad. In some satay noodles would be wonderful too.

we hv sthg similar here in Oz. I like it with my curry laksa or har mee or instant noodles...

A lot of fishballs or fish paste are made from surimi. I have seen that in Cali too. Surimi tofu - so this must be something like fishballs with a softer texture (cos of tofu) and in cube form! :O

Never heard this kind of tofu but very intrigued..love tofu ,love fish cake ,would love to try it, and will make it the way you made it with the shrimp.

oh!! I didn't see any brand from Msia..eventhought I get this tofu from a market there they sold plenty of Msia products! from the packaging I got,it's from thailand..

oh! yes this tofu can be treat as fish cake or fish ball in noodles soup..but I didn't see any from Msia yet!

actually this tofu doesn't taste tofu at all...it's like fish ball texture and taste..not bad at all..great as side dish or appetizer!

i think you can get this tofu at Oz since it's a Msia or Thais product..yea,it's a great idea to use with wt noodles soup!

yea you got it right!! it's softer coz it's has tofu mixer . I guess many store in Cali must carry this product coz of Asian community there..

oh,didn't know Surimi Tofu could be another name for fish tofu which we normally call it in SE Asia, it's normally made in Thailand and is very versatile, pan fried, fried, stir fry or poach in soup. very nice to dip into sweet & sour sauce too when fried.

i had this at a restaurant, and while it tasted fine, much prefer either regular fish cake or egg tofu coins. The tofu is quite subtle, and to me this tastes like unusually soft fish cake.
